California Gold Country: 29 Bottles of Wine on the Wall

29 bottles of wine on the wall. Six styles of port on the wall and a very tasty Syrah on tap. You’ll find all these at Hart2Hart Vineyard & Winery in Caifornia’s Gold Country.

What a golden opportunity to find this many wines available for tasting at a reasonable price. Their most expensive bottle of wine tasted came in at $30. Even their tasting fees were approachable with options for five tastes at $15, three tastes at $10 (buy two of those for $15.) But we were surprised to see wine club members charged five dollars for a flight and $7.50 for two flights. Most wineries pour carte Blanche for members and their guests.

It’s a nice facility with an indoor bar and outdoor picnic tables for tasting. Our wine host Carissa was a 10 year veteran of the company and was knowledgeable and gracious. Winemaker Marco Capelli favors softer palette wines and delivers blends and single varietals in multitudes.

Here’s what we tasted:

2021 Chardonnay (stainless steel fermentation with some wood for soft butter feel) $27 ✰+

Syrah (3 to 4 mixed Syrahs & with a dash of Cabernet) $30 ✰+

2016 Whitewater Red (Cabernet Based blended with Merlot, Sangiovese, Cab Franc & Zin) $26 ✰+

Zinfandel Blend (Blend of 2015 and 2017, Orange County Silver Metal) $27 ✰++/✰+

2018 Sangiovese (a blend of 2015 and six 2016 vintages) $29 ✰

2018 Proprietors Reserve (a blend of Cabernet,Petit Verdor & Malbec) $30 ✰

2018 Happy Zin (double gold winner Orange County and San Francisco Competitions) $27 -✰

Syrah in a Growler (a blend of Syrahs-we refer to these blends as cash flow or orphan wines) $13 for a growler, $19 for a fill ✰+

We purchased a Chardonnay and the Zinfandel blend and plan to enjoy them soon. You owe it to yourself to visit too.

Bill Hodge & Erin O’Neill-Hodge enjoy a good bottle of wine, visiting and enjoying California wineries from Lake County to Orange County, from the Paso Robles Gold Coast to Gold Country and from Lodi to Bakersfield.
