California Gold Country: 29 Bottles of Wine on the Wall
29 bottles of wine on the wall. Six styles of port on the wall and a very tasty Syrah on tap. You’ll find all these at Hart2Hart Vineyard & Winery in Caifornia’s Gold Country.
What a golden opportunity to find this many wines available for tasting at a reasonable price. Their most expensive bottle of wine tasted came in at $30. Even their tasting fees were approachable with options for five tastes at $15, three tastes at $10 (buy two of those for $15.) But we were surprised to see wine club members charged five dollars for a flight and $7.50 for two flights. Most wineries pour carte Blanche for members and their guests.
It’s a nice facility with an indoor bar and outdoor picnic tables for tasting. Our wine host Carissa was a 10 year veteran of the company and was knowledgeable and gracious. Winemaker Marco Capelli favors softer palette wines and delivers blends and single varietals in multitudes.
Here’s what we tasted:
2021 Chardonnay (stainless steel fermentation with some wood for soft butter feel) $27 ✰+
Syrah (3 to 4 mixed Syrahs & with a dash of Cabernet) $30 ✰+
2016 Whitewater Red (Cabernet Based blended with Merlot, Sangiovese, Cab Franc & Zin) $26 ✰+
Zinfandel Blend (Blend of 2015 and 2017, Orange County Silver Metal) $27 ✰++/✰+
2018 Sangiovese (a blend of 2015 and six 2016 vintages) $29 ✰
2018 Proprietors Reserve (a blend of Cabernet,Petit Verdor & Malbec) $30 ✰
2018 Happy Zin (double gold winner Orange County and San Francisco Competitions) $27 -✰
Syrah in a Growler (a blend of Syrahs-we refer to these blends as cash flow or orphan wines) $13 for a growler, $19 for a fill ✰+
We purchased a Chardonnay and the Zinfandel blend and plan to enjoy them soon. You owe it to yourself to visit too.
